„NEUE POSITIONEN – VEREIN DER BERLINER KÜNSTLERINNEN 1867“
(NEW POSITIONS – ASSOCIATION OF BERLIN’S FEMALE ARTISTS 1867)
The ‚VdBK1867‘ (Association of Berlin‘s Female Artists, founded in 1867) has been operating for more than 150 years for the professional recognition of female artists and their equal participation in the art world. In the spirit of this long-standing tradition the new publication presents and honors the artistic work of the current members. The 40 artists presented in the catalog come from all over the world and live and work in Berlin. They give insights into their oeuvre on two double pages thus inviting in a figurative sense to their studios. The different artistic positions, manuscripts and ways of working create a fascinating and complex kaleidoscope that also reflects many developments of Berlin’s art scene.
The VdBK is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the capital. What it means to be a part of this long tradition and history is described in a conversation with members of the association. In addition, ten artists researched about former pioneers of the association, who served as artistic and human examples for them. Their partly very personal texts helped them to sharpen their own artistic positions and to express respect and appreciation for the achievements of these former members and their political and human attitudes.
Two scientific contributions complete the volume with contemporary and historical positions and accentuate the unique work as well as the achievements of the VdBK – in the past as well as today. The publication of the catalog was supported by the Stiftung Kunstfonds, the Bühler-Bolstorff-Stiftung, the Heinz and Heide Dürr Foundation, the Dirk Rossmann GmbH and Ziegler Film.
